HOW TO GET TO BRANDON:
Transportation
Once students have arrived at the Winnipeg International Airport, individuals joining the ICRPS group at the Victoria Inn on June 24th will be able to access a 24-hour Airport Shuttle service to the hotel. The Victoria Inn provides this service – information is available on their website at www.vicinn.com/winnipeg/intro.asp. A tour bus will take the group from Winnipeg to Brandon on June 25th. This trip will include several stops at points of interest along the way; it is normally a 2-hour drive from Winnipeg to Brandon, but our travel time will be significantly increased.
Individuals arriving in Winnipeg after the evening of June 24th will be responsible for making their own travel arrangements to Brandon from Winnipeg. The Brandon Air Shuttle service provides ground transportation from Winnipeg International Airport to Brandon daily, though hours of operation are limited and it is recommended that this service be pre-booked. Information regarding the Brandon Air Shuttle can be located on their website at http://www.brandonairshuttle.com/.
Life in Brandon
The first 12 days of the programme are set in the city of Brandon. Many local attractions and restaurants are located within walking distance of campus. The BU campus itself is mainly situated on one square city block http://www.brandonu.ca/. The dining hall, residence and classroom are located within a two-minute walk of one another. Walking paths are conveniently situated throughout the city, as are bus stops.
Duck Mountain Lodge
The ICRPS group with depart for Duck Mountain Provincial Park, situated on the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border on July 8, for more information about the lodge and area please check out their website at http://www.madgelake.ca/ or the Saskatchewan parks website at http://www.se.gov.sk.ca/saskparks/. Distance necessitates that we travel as a group to the Duck Mountain Lodge; a tour bus has been chartered. It is approximately a three-hour drive from Brandon. We will make a number of stops at points of interest along the way, these stops will likely include a First Nation’s community and agricultural heritage sites. Participants not travelling with the group will either have to rent a vehicle or travel by bus. Bus service is somewhat limited and vehicle rental services can be costly. The summer school will depart for Winnipeg on July 13th by tour bus. Again a number of stops are planned along the way at points of interest to highlight the regional variability of Manitoba and break up the 6 hour drive to Winnipeg. Accommodations are reserved at the Victoria Inn where the summer school will host its closing ceremony on July 15th. A shuttle bus service is available for those departing from Winnipeg International Airport on July 16th. For more information regarding travel within Manitoba take a look at the Travel Manitoba website at http://www.travelmanitoba.com/.
